On this day in History, May 9th, 1754, the first American newspaper cartoon was published. The illustration in Benjamin Franklin's "Pennsylvania Gazette" showed a snake cut into sections, each part representing an American colony; the caption read, "Join or die."

On this day in History, May 8th, 1886, John Pemberton invented Coca-Cola or Coke.

Back in those days, Coca-Cola contained cocaine and people believed in had medicinal qualities. I'm sure that a drink with sugar, caffeine and cocain did have some fine qualities, I'm just not sure it was medicinal.

I love a nice cold Coke. I try to limit it to one a day. Most days I'm successful...

On this day, April 27, 1805, The United States Marine Corps captured the city of Derna, on the shores of Tripoli. Once the Marine Corps got involved, the pirates of the Barbary coast had no chance.

This was the first recorded land battle of the United States fought overseas, and who did they send? The Marine Corps.

On this day in History

On April 21, 1836, Sam Houston and an army of Texans kicked the ever loving crap out of santa anna at San Jacinto. It was after this battle that santa anna traded his life for Texas.

The Texans caught the mexicans taking a midday nap and kicked thier asses in 18 minutes.

This is the statue of Sam Houston that is near Huntsville, Texas. I have seen it many times. Sam Houston was a true Bad Ass and deserves a statue twice this size.

Happy Birthday President Washington...

On this day, February 22, 1732 the Father of our Country was born on his parents plantation in the Virginia Colony. He was the first President of this Country from 1789 to 1797.
