NRA to Call for Holder's Resignation Over 'Project Gunrunner' Allegations

The NRA should not only call for the resignation of holder, but doing away with the entire atf.

While everyone is saying that project gunrunner was an operation designed to bring down gun smuggling operations in the US and mexico, I have my doubts. I think it was a way to pad the numbers of guns  winding up south of the border with the goal of further restricting our gun rights. I think that mexico actually had very little to do with it other than being a destination.

I truly believe the atf is so anti-gun and so corrupt that it completely ignores all rules in it's quest to end our freedoms. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that obama is involved in this up to his neck. That isn't something we are likely to find out. His fingerprints in this have been covered well. holder is another matter. With enough digging and the cooperation of a few insiders and there are bound to be tracks leading to his door.

I hope the NRA isn't holding their breath on this, holder will never willingly walk away. He and obama have proven that they give not a damn about the opinion of the American people...

Having deflected questions so far regarding how much he knew about a federal project suspected of allowing guns sold in the U.S. to be illegally smuggled to Mexico, Attorney General Eric Holder is under fire again, this time from the National Rifle Association, a conservative group with a loud voice and influence in Washington.

Sources tell Fox News that NRA Executive Director Wayne LaPierre will call for Holder's resignation in a Saturday morning speech at the NRA's annual meeting in Pittsburgh.

LaPierre has criticized Holder's handling of "Project Gunrunner." The program of the Justice Department's Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is intended to stop the flow of guns to criminals in Mexico, but whistleblowers claim the bureau actually encouraged the illegal sale of firearms to known criminals, then allowed those guns to be smuggled to Mexico and tracked.

The practice of knowingly allowing guns to "walk" -- or be sold to straw buyers and then transferred to criminal organizations -- is against ATF policy. However, at least 15 ATF whistleblowers claim the agency, with the approval of Holder's Department of Justice, encouraged gun stores to make sales to questionable buyers, then failed to interdict the weapons.

According to Mexican authorities, at least 1,800 of those weapons were successfully smuggled into Mexico, where the cartels used them to commit crimes and foment violence.

What especially galls and upsets U.S. gun owners is this: While the ATF was allegedly sending guns south, hoping to eventually bust the entire trafficking organization, Obama administration officials, including President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, were partly blaming U.S. gun stores for the violence in Mexico.

"This war is being waged with guns purchased not here but in the United States. ... More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that lay in our shared border," President Obama said on a visit to Mexico on April 16, 2009.

Holder Blames Congress for Forcing Hand on Military Commissions for 9/11 Detainees

eric holder is a dumbass. He doesn't know better than congress (they, for the most part, are dumbasses too). There is no way in HELL that any of these scumbags should be tried in civilian court, none. They were all captured during a time of war and should be treated as such, including the hanging or firing squad they have coming to them when they are found guilty. holder needs to butt out and let the Military do their job...

Congress tied the Obama administration's hands in trying the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and his accomplices, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday, announcing that he was left without a choice and has referred the cases to the Defense Department for trial.

In stark language, Holder lambasted Congress for imposing restrictions blocking any detainees from being tried in the U.S., saying that the "unwise and unwarranted restrictions" undermine the U.S. in counter-intelligence and counter-terror efforts.

Expressing his disappointment in no uncertain terms, the attorney general said that as a native New Yorker, he knows as well as anyone the federal court's capacity to try the suspects. He added that he's intimately familiar with the cases, much moreso than congressional members -- or the public -- who opposed allowing the cases to be held in the United States.

"Do I know better than them? Yes. I respect their ability to disagree but they should respect that this is an executive branch function, a unique executive branch function," Holder said in a press conference.

As a result, Holder said Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who has been incarcerated in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, since 2006, after being captured in Pakistan in 2003, and four alleged Sept. 11 co-conspirators will face prosecution by a military commission in Guantanamo.

If you have been following this at all, you need to read the article by T.L. Davis at The American Thinker.
It's full of good information.

There is also a new article at FoxNews with some information about Darrel Issa and his subpoena. Rep. Issa also doubts that the justice department would be able to do an impartial investigation. I have to agree with that 100%. I have feeling eric holder is deeply involved in this, despite his and obama's denial of it. holder's involvment in Gunwalker would make an impartial investigation impossible.

This story is holding together much longer than I thought it would. It seems like most of these types of things get swept under the rug in short order by the obama media...

Obama Administration Under Mounting Pressure for Botched Gun Trafficking Investigation

Something you will probably never hear is that two bloggers got this whole ball rolling, Mike Vanderboegh from Sipsey Street Irregulars and David Codrea from National Gun Rights Examiner. Without these two guys this entire government abuse of power would have continued. The atf would have kept right on allowing guns into mexico that would find their way back here to kill more Americans. All the while the atf would have continued to pad their numbers and then used those numbers to steal more of our gun rights.

There is no possible way that eric holder was unaware of this operation. I would be willing to bet that obama was aware as well. Lie and deny. We can only hope that someone is able to uncover the evidence that links these two to this mess. It would be more than ironic if these two anti-gun scumbags were brought down over a gun case...

Congress and the Department of Justice appear to be headed for a showdown this week over documents detailing Operation Fast and Furious, the botched gunrunning sting set up by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that funneled more than 1,700 smuggled weapons from Arizona to Mexico.

The Justice Department has until Wednesday to deliver to congressional investigators a stack of records and emails naming the individuals responsible for the gun trafficking operation that may have killed dozens, if not hundreds of Mexicans, and is becoming a growing embarrassment for the Obama administration.

Under Project Gunrunner and the Phoenix off-shoot, dubbed Fast and Furious, the ATF encouraged gun store owners to sell to straw buyers -- consumers who they suspected of working on behalf of Mexican drug cartels.

Project Gunrunner purposely allowed the straw buyers to illegally buy and export guns only to see where they surfaced in Mexico. Using this investigative technique, the ATF hoped to take down the entire gun trafficking organization. Instead, records show it allowed more than 1,700 guns, including hundreds of AK-47s and high-powered, armor-piercing .50-caliber rifles to be trafficked to Mexico

Buying guns for non-personal use is illegal. Yet gun store owners were assured by ATF agents the buyers were under investigation and the guns were being intercepted before crossing into Mexico.

Instead, whistleblowers say the guns were allowed "to walk."

President Obama, speaking for the first time about the growing scandal, conceded last week Fast and Furious may have been "a serious mistake," but he claimed, "I did not authorize it; Eric Holder, the attorney general, did not authorize it. He's been very clear that our policy is to catch gunrunners and put them into jail."

But an investigation by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, could show otherwise.

The ATF operates under Justice Department, and two assistant U.S. attorneys in Phoenix authorized virtually every wiretap, affidavit and investigation conducted in Operation Fast and Furious.

Some, like Issa, wonder how Holder could not have known about an investigation that size...

Obama says he didn’t inform Mexico of U.S. gun smuggling operation because he didn’t know about it

I think obama did know about "gunwalker". I'm not so sure calderon didn't know too. And you can bet your ass holder knew what was going on.

The atf screwed the pooch on this. It's another example of a rogue agency gone wild. They planned to use the number of guns being trafficked to further encroach on our gun rights. The only thing they planned to leave out was that they allowed the guns to get to mexico.

We know about the Agent that was killed with one of these weapons, but how many innocent mexican citizens lost their lives because of the atf? There is no way that an operation like this could be implemented without the buy in of people way up the chain of command. This is going to lead to holder at the very least and probably to obama. I can't wait until there is hard evidence linking one or both of them to this mess. They are both scumbags and they are due...

Under fire for an operation that allowed smuggling of U.S. weapons across the nation’s border with Mexico, President Obama said in an interview that neither he nor Attorney General Eric Holder authorized the controversial “Operation Fast and Furious.”

The Mexican government has complained that it didn’t know about the U.S. operation that allowed guns to illegally cross the southwestern border so they could track the weapons.

Obama told Univision‘s Jorge Ramos that President Felipe Calderon wasn’t informed of the operation because he — the president of the United States — wasn’t informed either. When asked whether he knew of the weapon smuggling plan, Obama responded that it is “a pretty big government” with “a lot of moving parts.”

The investigation into the program comes after it was connected to two weapons that were found at the scene of a border shootout that killed U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry in December. Likewise, a gun smuggled from the U.S. were used to kill Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agent Jamie Zapata, but it has not been determined if it was part of “Fast and Furious.”

When President Calderon came to visit Washington recently, the two presidents came together on a policy to stop drug and weapon smuggling across the border.

“Our policy is to ram up the interdiction of guns flowing south because that’s contributing to some of the security problems that are taking place in Mexico and what we’re doing is trying to build the kind of cooperation between Mexico and the United States that we haven’t seen before,” Obama told Univision.

The president said his attorney general has been “very clear that our policy is to catch gunrunners and put them into jail.”

The controversial operation was the subject of a CBS News Investigation that reported ATF was allowing traffickers to bring weapons into Mexico in order to track them rather than arresting the traffickers. Obama said Holder has assigned an inspector general to investigate what happened, because he does not know who authorized the operation.

“Letting guns ‘walk’ is not something that is acceptable,” Holder said during a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee hearing. “Guns are different than drugs or money when we are trying to follow their trail. That is not acceptable.”

Holder said he made this clear to attorneys and ATF agents.

Let me get this straight, the city of dayton is going to give people who aren't qualified a badge and a gun and turn them loose on the people of the city? Maybe they should give up the test altogether. Maybe just pass out guns and badges to anyone who wants one.

OMG! eric holder and his dumbasses are the biggest bunch of racists on the planet. What can they possibly be thinking? This doesn't have anything to do with race, there are just as many smart black people as there are white. It has to do with having qualified people protecting the citizens of the community.

So the standards need to be lowered because only the dumbass black people want to be cops? What if only dumbass white people applied? When they failed the test in large numbers would eric holder intervene then? I think we all know the answer to that, since the aren't "his people"...

The Dayton Police Department is lowering its testing standards for recruits.

It's a move required by the U.S. Department of Justice after it says not enough African-Americans passed the exam.

Dayton is in desperate need of officers to replace dozens of retirees. The hiring process was postponed for months because the D.O.J. rejected the original scores provided by the Dayton Civil Service Board, which administers the test.

Under the previous requirements, candidates had to get a 66% on part one of the exam and a 72% on part two.

The D.O.J. approved new scoring policy only requires potential police officers to get a 58% and a 63%. That's the equivalent of an ‘F’ and a ‘D’.

“It becomes a safety issue for the people of our community,” said Dayton Fraternal Order of Police President, Randy Beane. “It becomes a safety issue to have an incompetent officer next to you in a life and death situation."

“The NAACP does not support individuals failing a test and then having the opportunity to be gainfully employed,” agreed Dayton NAACP President Derrick Foward.

The D.O.J. and Civil Service Board declined Dayton’s News Source’s repeat requests for interviews. The lower standards mean 258 more people passed the test. The city won't say how many were minorities.

“If you lower the score for any group of people, you're not getting the best qualified people for the job,” Foward said.

“We need to work with the youth and make them interested in becoming law enforcement officers and firefighters,” said Beane. “Break down the barriers whether they are real or perceived, so we can move forward in this community.”

The D.O.J. has forced other police departments across the country to lower testing standards, citing once again that not enough black candidates were passing.
