Even as President barack obama continued the U.S. military intervention in Libya’s civil war--with armed Predator drones beginning patrols over that North African country on Thursday--U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the division of the Department of Homeland Security responsible for enforcing immigration laws, could not account for 10 Libyan men it had caught and released inside the United States since July 2009.

After two weeks of inquiries about the Libyans from CNSNews.com, ICE finally responded on Thursday afternoon that it had already released to CNSNews.com all the information that was “available” on these Libyans and that the agency had “nothing more to add on the matter.”

ICE describes itself as “the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the second largest investigative agency in the federal government.” It says its “primary mission is to promote homeland security and public safety through the criminal and civil enforcement of federal laws governing border control, customs, trade, and immigration.”

The information about the unaccounted-for Libyans derives from a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that CNSNews.com filed with ICE on Dec. 1, 2010. This FOIA request asked for records about non-Mexican foreign nationals processed by ICE in fiscal years 2009 and 2010.

On Jan. 28, 2011, ICE responded to the FOIA request by providing CNSNews.com with two Excel spreadsheets including information about 286,769 non-Mexican foreign nationals processed by the agency over the two years. One Excel spreadsheet contained information on 143,543 non-Mexican aliens processed by ICE in fiscal 2009, and another Excel spreadsheet contained information about 143,206 non-Mexican aliens processed by ICE in fiscal 2010.

The Excel spreadsheets did not include the names of the aliens, but did include eight columns of information about them. These columns included: 1) the “book in” date on which the alien had been detained, 2) the “book out” date on which the alien had been released from detention, 3) the ICE geographical “area of responsibility” in which the alien had been detained, 4) the alien’s "case status,” 5) the alien’s “case category,” 6) the alien’s date of birth, 7) the alien’s gender, and 8) the alien’s country of citizenship.

In all 286,769 cases, ICE had redacted the unnamed alien’s date of birth from the version of the database released to CNSNews.com citing the (b)(6) and (b)(7)(C) exemptions under FOIA. As ICE explained in a letter to CNSNews.com, these exemptions allow the government to withhold information from a FOIA response if releasing it would be an “unwarranted invasion of privacy.”

Generally, the spreadsheet entry for an alien detained by ICE included information in each of the other seven columns. For example, the first alien listed in the database is a 1) female, 2) Nicaraguan, 3) booked in by ICE on Oct. 29, 2008, 4) in the St. Paul, Minn. area of responsibility, 5) who was booked out on Nov. 19, 2008, 6) whose “case category” was “[8C] Excludable / Inadmissible--Administrative Final Order Issued,” and 7) whose “case status” was “8-Excluded/Removed--Inadmissibility.”

The spreadsheets also generally indicated when an alien had been granted some form of relief or given permanent resident status in the United States. For example, a Honduran man detained in the San Antonio area on April 8, 2009 and held in custody until Sept. 16, 2009, was marked as having a case category of “Excludable/Inadmissable,” but after his case was adjudicated by an immigration judge, his case status column was marked “L-Legalization--Permanent Residence Granted.”

The spreadsheets included a total of 27 citizens of Libya who were processed by ICE in 2009 and 2010. All 27 were men.

The spreadsheet entries for 15 of these 27 Libyan men had information in all seven columns, showing when they had been booked in, when they had been booked out, and what had happened to their cases.

The spreadsheet entries for another two of the Libyan men do not make clear if they were ever booked out. One of these two, who was booked in by ICE on July 25, 2009, in the Buffalo, N.Y. area, had a five-digit number --“40050”—in his “Book Out Date” column. His “Case Category” and “Case Status” column were left blank.

The other of these two, who was booked in by ICE on Sept. 30, 2009 in the Denver, Colo. area, had a blank in his “Book Out Date” column as well as blanks in his “Case Category” and “Case Status” column.

Crisis getting deeper in Syria...

As the crisis in Syria deepens, we once again see obama sitting on the fence. He will wait until someone chooses a side for him or until the outcome is determined and then claim that was his team the whole time.

While he let the u.n. decide a course of action for our Country in Libya, once that decision was made he jumped on board with both feet, pretending to have a plan and a new policy. So will that policy apply to Syria? Can we expect to see cruise missles on the Syrian horizon? Or will our course of action be dictated by the u.n.?

Has any other president in the history of our Country let the u.n. decide when we do or do not act? It is a sign of weakness on the part of obama. He has shown many of those signs. His inability to deal with foreign policy issues is scary. What if there is an actual threat to our Country? Will we have to wait four or five weeks for a decision from the u.n. on how we should deal with that threat? By then it may be too late? Is that a chance we should be willing to take?

When bashar assad starts mudering his own people wholesale for protesting mistreatment, will obama call for his removal but then refuse to target him? Will he say that assad has to go but then claim we are not advocating for regime change? This is exactly how obama has treated qaddafi in Libya, why would we expect anything different if it comes to blows in Syria?

It's surprising how easily obama's complete disregard for the Constitution was deflected after the action in Libya. Dennis Kucinich was about the only person I heard calling for impeachment. For once I actually agreed with the guy. It should have been John Boehner or harry reid, but nothing from reid and only an idle threat from Boehner. I sometimes wonder if obama has some sort of dirt on every single member of congress. Why are none of them willing to stand up to obama? Even when he shows total disregard for our Constitution and our laws. Will he be so bold if the u.n. orders us into Syria?

2012 can not come soon enough. We need to rid our Country of this obama cancer at our earliest opportunity. If we don't, there may not be much of a Country left...

Few Americans see Obama as strong military leader

Only 17 percent of Americans see President Barack Obama as a strong and decisive military leader, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken after the United States and its allies began bombing Libya.

Nearly half of those polled view Obama as a cautious and consultative commander-in-chief and more than a third see him as indecisive in military matters.

Obama was widely criticized in 2009 for his months-long consultations with senior aides and military chiefs on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan. Critics called it dithering, but he said such a big decision required careful deliberation. He eventually dispatched 30,000 more troops.

But Obama is facing mounting discontent among opposition Republicans and from within his own Democratic Party over the fuzzy aims of the U.S.-led mission in Libya and the lack of a clearly spelled-out exit strategy for U.S. forces.

If the Libya mission becomes a foreign policy mess, mixed with perceptions Obama is a weak military leader, it could spell trouble for him in the 2012 presidential election...

Who's in charge? Germans pull forces out of NATO as Libyan coalition falls apart

What a clusterfuck. This is exactly what you get when obama and the u.n. start planning a war. Neither of them should be allowed to have anything to do with a military operation. An individual or an organization without a set of balls, actual or literal, should be banned from any war planning, strategy session or any other involvement. It should be left to the big boys.

I don't blame Germany for pulling their troops. nato will just get them all killed.

With the new information of the rebels being backed by al queda, we should pull our support and the libyans fight this out amongst themselves.

Deep divisions between allied forces currently bombing Libya worsened today as the German military announced it was pulling forces out of NATO over continued disagreement on who will lead the campaign.

A German military spokesman said it was recalling two frigates and AWACS surveillance plane crews from the Mediterranean, after fears they would be drawn into the conflict if NATO takes over control from the U.S.

The infighting comes as a heated meeting of NATO ambassadors yesterday failed to resolve whether the 28-nation alliance should run the operation to enforce a U.N.-mandated no-fly zone, diplomats said.

Yesterday a war of words erupted between the U.S. and Britain after the U.K. government claimed Muammar Gaddafi is a legitimate target for assassination.

U.K. government officials said killing the Libyan leader would be legal if it prevented civilian deaths as laid out in a U.N. resolution.

But U.S. defence secretary Robert Gates hit back at the suggestion, saying it would be 'unwise' to target the Libyan leader adding cryptically that the bombing campaign should stick to the 'U.N. mandate'.

President Barack Obama, seeking to avoid getting bogged down in a war in another Muslim country, said on Monday Washington would cede control of operations against Muammar Gaddafi's forces within days, handing the reins over to NATO.

But Germany and European allies remain unwilling to have NATO take on a military operation that theoretically has nothing to do with the defence of Europe.

Today the German defence ministry announced Berlin had pulled out of any military operations in the Mediterranean.

Influential Lawmakers Call for More Congressional Involvement in Libya and an Obama Address to the Nation

This is a no win for obama. With assholes like me calling him a pussy for waiting forever to act and assholes in both the Republican and democratic party calling for impeachment, he is hosed.

People can say what they want about George W., but at least he got the buy in of congress before he took action.

This is another story that cracks me up. I have no sympathy for obama at all. He deserves all the criticism, from both sides. He should have gotten with congress and he should have done it 20 days ago.

It bothers the hell out of me that he waited for the u.n. before he decided to act. We are a sovereign Nation. We don't need the approval of anyone to act in the best interest of our Country. And doing what is morally right is the best path, always...

With the U.S. military's sizeable initial engagement in Libya to impose a no-fly zone, and with what some preceive as mixed messages from the Obama administration on an overall mission, respected moderate senators Monday began expressing concern for the road ahead in the African nation and said Congress must be more involved and the American people more informed.

"Although I do not support Qaddafi killing his own people, I have many concerns regarding U.S. involvement. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will continue to monitor the situation and hold the Administration accountable for explaining the objective of the military campaign and other questions," declared Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, a member of the Democratic leadership.

"We need to get more involved," former Vietnam combat veteran Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., told MSNBC on Monday. "We have not had a debate...This isn't the way that our system is supposed to work."

Sen. Dick Lugar, a GOP foreign policy heavyweight, has consistently criticized the operation, calling for a vote in Congress. "My basic concern is that we do not have a plan for the United States and how its allies are going to handle the situation. We don't have objectives that, or at least some idea of how we would obtain those objectives," the Indiana senator told Fox.

"Who is in command of this operation?" Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., a current U.S. Navy reservist, asked rhetorically Monday at a speech in Chicago, "I don't know. Admiral (Mike) Mullen didn't seem to give a clear answer."

The Army general leading the U.S. forces enforcing a no-fly zone over Libya said on Monday it would not be ideal for Muammar Gaddafi to remain in power but attacking the Libyan leader was not part of his mission.

U.S. Army General Carter Ham also said the military coalition imposing the no-fly zone flew 70 to 80 sorties on Monday, with non-U.S. forces flying more than half of them. He said he expected a decline in the frequency of attacks on Libya in the coming days.

Calling Barack Obama as "our son", Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi sent a message to the US President defending his decision to attack the rebels fighting to overthrow him.

Gaddafi(68) also wrote a letter to the French and British leaders, and the UN Secretary General, saying the Security Council resolution was "void" and violated the UN charter, warning them that they would "regret" any intervention.

"Libya is not for you, Libya is for the Libyans," he said.

Details of Gaddafi's letters were released by the Libyan government spokesman at a news conference in Tripoli.

Defending his decision to attack rebel cities, Gaddafi told Obama, "Al Qaeda is an armed organisation, passing through Algeria, Mauritania and Mali. What would you do if you found them controlling American cities with the power of weapons? What would you do, so I can follow your example."

Trying to strike a personal note, Gaddafi prefaced his letter saying, "To our son, his excellency, Mr Baracka Hussein Obama. I have said to you before, that even if Libya and the United States of America enter into a war, god forbid, you will always remain a son. Your picture will not be changed."

In his letter to Nikolas Sarkozy, David Cameron and Ban Ki Moon, Gaddafi said, "Libya is not yours, Libya is for the Libyans. The security council, their resolution is void because it is not according to the charter to interfere with the internal affairs of the country."

You have no right. You will regret if you get involved in this, our country. We can never shoot a single bullet on our people, it is Al Qaeda organisation."

Liberal Democrats in uproar over Libya action

kucinich is a dumbass. He should have known that a: obama doesn't ask anybody if he can do anything, and b: with the entire world calling obama a big pussy, he didn't really have a choice. I mean, think about it, when FRANCE seems like it has more balls than us, something is wrong, real wrong.

A hard-core group of liberal House Democrats is questioning the constitutionality of U.S. missile strikes against Libya, with one lawmaker raising the prospect of impeachment during a Democratic Caucus conference call on Saturday.

Reps. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Donna Edwards (Md.), Mike Capuano (Mass.), Dennis Kucinich (Ohio), Maxine Waters (Calif.), Rob Andrews (N.J.), Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas), Barbara Lee (Calif.) and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.) “all strongly raised objections to the constitutionality of the president’s actions” during that call, said two Democratic lawmakers who took part.

Kucinich, who wanted to bring impeachment articles against both former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney over Iraq — only to be blocked by his own leadership — asked why the U.S. missile strikes aren’t impeachable offenses.

Kucinich also questioned why Democratic leaders didn’t object when President Barack Obama told them of his plan for American participation in enforcing the Libyan no-fly zone during a White House Situation Room meeting on Friday, sources told POLITICO.

Arab League condemns broad bombing campaign in Libya

This is exactly why we can't count on these dumbasses. It's kind of stupid to attempt to impose a no-fly zone without taking down the air defense systems. Without that all you have is an airwar. And while there is no way a libyan pilot can compete with a Marine Corps pilot, why chance getting our aircraft damaged or our pilots injured.

I do kind of wonder though, if anyone bothered to tell the arab league that we would begin this with a bomning campaign? I find it hard to believe that this caught them totally by surprise. If nothing else, they have seen us kick the shit out of some of their neighbors before. The arab league should know how it's done...

CAIRO—The Arab League secretary general, Amr Moussa, deplored the broad scope of the U.S.-European bombing campaign in Libya and said Sunday that he would call a league meeting to reconsider Arab approval of the Western military intervention.

Moussa said the Arab League’s approval of a no-fly zone on March 12 was based on a desire to prevent Moammar Gaddafi’s air force from attacking civilians and was not designed to endorse the intense bombing and missile attacks — including on Tripoli, the capital, and on Libyan ground forces — whose images have filled Arab television screens for two days.

“What is happening in Libya differs from the aim of imposing a no-fly zone,” he said in a statement on the official Middle East News Agency. “And what we want is the protection of civilians and not the shelling of more civilians.”

Moussa’s declaration suggested that some of the 22 Arab League members were taken aback by what they have seen and wanted to modify their approval lest they be perceived as accepting outright Western military intervention in Libya. Although the eccentric Gaddafi is widely looked down on in the Arab world, the leaders and people of the Middle East traditionally have risen up in emotional protest at the first sign of Western intervention.

A shift away from the Arab League endorsement, even partial, would be an important setback to the U.S.-European campaign. Western leaders brandished the Arab League decision as a justification for their decision to move militarily and as a weapon in the debate to win approval for a U.N. Security Council resolution two days before the bombing began.

Qaddafi's Air Defenses 'Severely Disabled' Following Military Strikes

Military strikes by the U.S. and its allies against targets in Libya Saturday have "severely disabled" Libyan leader's Muammar al-Qaddafi's air defenses, a U.S. official confirms to Fox News.

The official also warns they do not know what Qaddafi will do next following the military strikes.

"It's too soon to predict what he and his ground forces may do in response to today's strikes," the official told Fox News.

Despite the blow, Qaddafi remained defiant as he threatened to attack military and civilian targets in the Mediterranean in retaliation of international coalition strikes on Libya.

"It is now necessary to open the stores and arm all the masses with all types of weapons to defend the independence, unity and honor of Libya," Qaddafi said in a speech broadcast on Libya state television, according to Reuters. He also warns that weapons depots are being opened to arm the Libyan people in defense.

The Pentagon says 112 Tomahawk cruise missiles have been launched from U.S. and British ships in the Mediterranean, hitting more than 20 Libyan targets along the Mediterranean coastline.

Navy Vice Adm. William E. Gortney, director of the Pentagon's Joint Staff, told reporters the Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from one British submarine and a number of American destroyers and subs. He said the success of the mission was not immediately clear, adding that additional attacks would commence later.

No-Fly zone in Libya...

The u.n. has decided to give their permission for a no-fly zone over Libya. All of a sudden obama is on board? Where has this dumbass been for the last 31 days while rebels and civilians got the crap kicked out of them?

obama came out talking tough. Warning qaddafi do stop... or else. Or else what? He has already said we won't put American boots on the ground and we won't use attack aircraft. So what else is left? Is he going to send hillary over there to ugly them to death? Or maybe biden to idiot them into submission? Or maybe go over there himself and help qaddafi with his basketball brackets?

obama is so full of shit his breath stinks. He talks tough, but he won't do a damn thing, and the entire world knows it.

It hasn't gone unnoticed by most of the world that obama refuses to make a decision and will only commit when the decision has been made for him. It's a sad day when the United States president lets the u.n. make decisions for him. Talk about a bunch of worthless, good for nothings, the u.n is it.

Let me clarify that I don't think we should invade Libya. There is no way we should put boots on the ground there. But... we should fire up some fighter jets and shoot down anything in the air, and maybe take out a few tanks on the way. That would even the odds a little for the rebels...

Everywhere I go I see the same story, it's all about the complete lack of leadership from obama. Am I the only one who isn't surprised by this? I mean the papers are making out like they are shocked or something. This guy has never shown any leadership. He talks a lot of shit but never backs it up with anything, never. Why would they expect him to man up now? He doesn't know what to do, he is clueless, spineless and in way over his head. He does know how to ruin the hell out of economy though.

He showed no courage in Illinois when he voted present most of the time. He showed no courage when he ran from rev. wright during the campaign. It's a pattern of behavior. Instead of taking the high road, he prefers the easy road. All you democrats got what you voted for, a fancy suit that can read a teleprompter and nothing else...

The moment demands that he rise to the challenge of showing America and the world that he is taking the reins. How leaders act in times of unanticipated crisis, in which they do not have a formulated game plan and must instead navigate in treacherous waters, defines them.

Obama is defining himself in a way that will destroy him.

It is not merely that he isn't rising to the challenge. He is avoiding the challenge. He is Bartleby the President. He would prefer not to.

He has access to a microphone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If he tells the broadcast networks in the middle of the day that he has a major address to deliver on an unprecedented world situation, they will cancel their programming for him.

And yet, since Friday and a press conference in which he managed to leave the American position on Libya more muddled than it was before, we have not heard his voice. Except in a radio address -- he talked about education legislation.

And he appeared at a fund-raiser in DC. And sat down with ESPN to reveal his NCAA picks...

U.N. Security Council Introduces No-Fly Zone Draft Resolution on Libya

Dude, why did these dumbshits even bother to waste the time on a resolution they don't think will pass? You may already know this, but in case you don't, the u.n. is a clusterfuck. They are very good at spending money but pretty worthless at everything else.

A proposal to establish a no-fly zone over Libya has been introduced to the U.N. Security Council, though both its chance of passage and effectiveness even if it does pass are very much in doubt.

The resolution would provide political and legal authorization for the establishment of a no-fly zone over Libya, strengthen existing economic sanctions -- including a more robust enforcement of an arms embargo -- and expand a list of individuals, organizations and companies that are subject to travel bans and to the freezing of assets from Libya. The draft also calls for a ban on the use of commercial flights to transport mercenaries into the country and other means to end the involvement of foreign fighters.

The move comes as forces loyal to Muammar Qaddafi have used airpower and tanks with devastating effect against the rebels, who are losing ground in their battle to unseat the longtime dictator.

"It may prove to be too little too late," says Robert Danin, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. "It could be of some assistance in creating humanitarian sanctuaries, but if the goal is to roll back Qaddafi's forces, it is likely to have little military effect, especially with the rebel stronghold of Benghazi on the brink of falling."

Even though the U.S. is now backing the draft Libya resolution, Danin believes the Obama administration should have pushed harder for action much earlier. "Obama should not have called for Qaddafi to step down if the U.S. was not willing to back up that call with a real sense of an ‘or else' ... consequences for failing to step down.”

The topic of President Obama's weekend radio address has raised some eyebrows, as Obama has met mounting crises with the same restraint and cool that characterized his slow-and-steady campaign for president. To some critics, the tone set by the White House in light of recent upheaval may hurt the president's public image.

Amid chaos around the world and on Capitol Hill, Obama's Saturday radio address was devoted to Women's History Month and a call to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, a proposal meant to address the income gap between men and women. Then, the president went golfing at Andrews Air Force Base.

"I don't know if they don't realize the disconnect and maybe they don't care ... but it does matter," Dana Perino, former White House press secretary under George W. Bush, told Fox News.

Former Bush adviser Karl Rove said that he doesn't "begrudge" the president for taking time out for recreation, but Libya and the budget in particular demand more involvement on Obama's part.

Critics note that every time Congress works on a stopgap budget, it risks a government shutdown and does virtually nothing to cut spending, all the while creeping closer to a tricky -- and potentially disastrous -- vote on raising the debt ceiling; every day the administration defers to its international partners to weigh the best course of action in Libya, Muammar al-Qaddafi gains ground.

3 Disturbing Images of Obama

Once again, Karl Rove hits the nail on the head. obama's foreign policy or should I say, lack of foreign policy is lessening the United States in the eyes of the world. One would think that he would eventually keep his mouth shut on matters for which he has no head. Instead he continues to spout tough sounding rhetoric with very little substance and no follow up. It is our duty to assist those in Libya seeking freedom. In may not be in the form of troops or an invasion. But a simple no-fly zone would allow the rebels an opportunity to catch their breath and regroup. The airstrikes by the Libyan military keep the rebels on their heels and unable to gain ground.

obama's failure to lead on the budget, again, failure to lead is too light, his failure to participate in the process at all, has made him look foolish and immature. He criticizes, yet he adds nothing of substance to the conversation. The democrats, in return, try to get by with the bare minimum of participation, but thwart any progress by the Republicans. It has created an atmosphere similar to elementary school. The back and forth bickering with nothing being accomplished gives us in the real world very little to be hopeful about. We are not the idiots congress and obama take us for. We see the future of our Country and the financial ruin we are headed for.

obama claims to be uninvolved in the Wisconsin union battle. Yet he sent his pit bulls from organizing for America and makes snide little comments at every opportunity. His involvement runs much deeper than he would have us believe. He is very involved, but his refusal to admit it and show open support have angered many in his union base. He has revealed himself to be a coward on about every front. Just like his days in the Illinois senate voting present.

I'm still amazed that such a man has been able to ascend to such a level. He has no conviction, no strength and no spine. He is unwilling or unable to take a stand on any issue that opponents could use to pin him down. One would think that the president of the United States would do the right thing, always, and the critics be damned. I hope this experiment in socialism has reminded us why it has failed many times and in many places...

Last week was a bad week for America because it was a bad week for President Obama.

West Wing politicos may not share that opinion. They seem to think any week during which the president makes a speech or holds a news conference is a good week: Americans get to see the amazing, inspiring Mr. Obama. But three images of Mr. Obama from last week are hardly uplifting.

First, there was the president on Libya -- dithering, indecisive, unreliable, and weak. As Qaddafi’s mercenaries and bombers brutally grabbed back momentum from the democratic opposition, all Mr. Obama could say was, “My national security team has been working…to monitor the situation…to prepare the full range of options…”

If America’s failure to lead allows Qaddafi to snuff out the popular uprising against his dictatorship and regain power, the consequences for the U.S. will be severe. Dictators will know the U.S. president is a pushover. Our allies around the world will be dispirited and our adversaries emboldened.

Then there was the on-going budget battle. The failure of Mr. Obama, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to pass a budget before the start of the fiscal year last October 1 is an astonishing act of incompetence. They controlled the entire process with wide margins in both houses. Now we are reduced to funding the government of the world’s most powerful nation with continuing resolutions that cover two or three-week periods. And Congressional Democrats are whining it is impossible to cut $60 billion out of a budget that consists of $3.8 trillion dollars.

At a Friday morning press conference Mr. Obama called the failure to pass a budget “irresponsible” and said “the notion that we can’t get resolved last year’s budget in a sensible way…defies common sense.” But he was not passive observer. He’s the president who failed to get his own budget approved by his own party last year.

Then Mr. Obama went on to say of the budget that “it shouldn’t be that complicated…to get this completed.” This came after weeks during which Democratic Congressional leaders criticized the president for providing no leadership, then the appointment by Mr. Obama of Vice President Joe Biden as his personal negotiator on the budget, and Mr. Biden’s almost immediate departure for a weeklong foreign trip. Mr. Obama still refused to get his hands dirty by offering a possible solution.

Then there were the president’s remarks to members of the National Governors Association on Wisconsin, last month, where he cautioned, “I don’t think it does anybody any good when public employees are denigrated or vilified.”

This was a classic Obama straw man. Who exactly is “vilifying” or “denigrating” whom? The president’s intimation was that it was Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, but Mr. Walker’s tone has been mild, even-tempered, restrained and entirely appropriate.

If there are people who needed a presidential admonishment about civility and respect, they are the protestors who broke into the Wisconsin capital building in a vain attempt to keep the legislature from voting, the protestors who compared Mr. Walker to Adolf Hitler, and the Democratic legislators who fled the state rather than do their duty. But those would be the president’s allies and admonition are only required of his opponents.

When Mr. Obama was in the Illinois State Senate, he had the annoying habit of voting “present” on controversial issues he felt might damage his future political ambitions. -- But at least Mr. Obama showed up then. The president’s refusal now to provide leadership on Libya or the budget and his readiness to score cheap political points with straw man attacks makes his days in the State Senate look like an era of true statesmanship.

Qaddafi Pushes Ahead With Attacks on Rebels as Arab League Calls for No-Fly Zone

You know obama has to be tickled that he didn't have to make the decision on the no-fly zone. He seems to have a hard time with decisions, except when it involves radically rearranging the lives of Americans.

It's good to see the arabs of the region taking a little responsibility for their own portion of the globe. The instability in Libya will only cause refugees to pour into the neighboring countries in larger numbers unless something is done to stem the violence.

obama once again proves his foreign policy skills are about as useless as the rest of his skills...

RAS LANOUF, Libya -- The world moved a step closer to a decision on imposing a no-fly zone over Libya but Muammar al-Qaddafi was swiftly advancing Saturday on the poorly equipped and loosely organized rebels who have seized much of the country.

Qaddafi's forces pushed the frontline miles deeper into rebel territory and violence erupted at the front door of the opposition stronghold in eastern Libya, where an Al-Jazeera cameraman slain in an ambush became the first journalist killed in the nearly month-long conflict.

In Cairo, the Arab League asked the U.N. Security Council to impose a no-fly zone to protect the rebels, increasing pressure on the U.S. and other Western powers to take action that most have expressed deep reservations about.

In surprisingly swift action and aggressive language, the 22-member Arab bloc said after an emergency meeting that the Libyan government had "lost its sovereignty." It asked the United Nations to "shoulder its responsibility ... to impose a no-fly zone over the movement of Libyan military planes and to create safe zones in the places vulnerable to airstrikes."

Western diplomats have said Arab and African approval was necessary before the Security Council voted on imposing a no-fly zone, which would be imposed by NATO nations to protect civilians from air attack by Qaddafi's forces.

Clinton: No-Fly Zone Over Libya Cannot be U.S.-Led Effort

clinton is full of shit. We are the United States and we can do whatever the hell we want to do. We don't need a bunch of candy asses in the u.n. to tell us when and where we can set up a no fly zone.

So as obama continues to wring his hands and plan his next golf game or vacation, women and children are being murdered by libyan jets and gun ships. While the u.n. schedules a meeting innocent people are dying in the streets.

WE ARE NOT THE WORLD'S POLICE FORCE! But it is immoral for us to stand by and do nothing while innocent civilians are being killed when we have the ability to stop it.

I'm not saying we should invade libya. What I am saying is that imposing and enforcing a no fly zone will inhibit the ability of the libyan military to commit mass murder with aircraft and give those fighting against a corrupt dictator a fighting chance.

The u.n. is worthless and so is obama. Leaders should have the guts to do the right thing even when it isn't popular. We should never base the decision to save innocent people on a u.n. mandate...

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Sky News Wednesday that a no-fly zone over Libya cannot be a U.S.-led effort, and would need the backing of the international community.

"I think it's very important that this not be a U.S.-led effort, because this comes from the people of Libya themselves," she told Sky News.

"This doesn't come from the outside. This doesn't come from some Western power or some Gulf country saying this is what you should do, this is how you should live."

Clinton's comments come as Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell pushed back on notions that Defense Secretary Robert Gates was against setting up a no-fly zone.

"The secretary's position on a no-fly zone has not changed," Morrell told press traveling with Gates en route to a NATO advisory meeting in Brussels. "We are preparing a full range of military options for the president, including a no-fly zone."

Morrell added, "We have already moved significant assets into the Mediterranean to provide humanitarian assistance."

Libya will now likely be on the formal agenda of that pre scheduled defense ministers meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, as British and French leaders continue to push for the establishment of a no-fly zone to prevent Libyan leader Muammar al-Qadaffi from firing on his own people.

"[Gates] position is he is committed to providing the president with the full range of options, it's his duty also to present the ramifications of each option presented."

obama says violence in Libya unacceptable...

Umm, ok, so now what?

What does that mean exactly? I think obama means " the violence is unacceptable but I am too much of a pussy to help the anti-government rebels out. We probably should, but we haven't had enough time to calculate every single political angle and how it will affect me, personally. So instead I will sit around and talk a bunch of stupid shit and when I'm done with that, I might play golf, or go on an extravagant, tax payer funded vacation."

That may not be an exact translation, but it is pretty damn close...

U.K. Pulls Plug on United Nations Spending, in Move That is Bound to Hearten U.S. Critics

It sounds like someone in the British government found a set of balls. It's too bad nobody in our government can find a pair. It is always amazing how we continue to support an organization that throws us under the bus at every opportunity.

The u.n. has proven itself to be corrupt time and time again. And they are completely out of touch with reality. How could an organization with any sense of reality put countries like libya and iran on any kind of "rights" council. Neither of those countries knows anything about human rights, womens rights or any other kind of rights.

The u.n. is an outdated, irrelevent organiztion that should be put to sleep...

Critics of U.S. spending on the United Nations got a huge boost—and supporters of that spending, especially the Obama Administration, took a body blow—from an unlikely source this week: the British government, long one of the U.N.’s staunchest supporters.

In a sweeping and hard-nosed reorganization of priorities for its $10.6 billion multilateral foreign aid program, the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government of Prime Minister David Cameron has pulled the financial plug entirely on four U.N. agencies at the end of next year, put three others judged merely “adequate” on notice that they could face the same fate unless they improve their performance “as a matter of absolute urgency;” and issued pointed criticisms of almost all the rest.

The major exception: UNICEF, the U.N. children’s aid agency, which got a strong endorsement and a funding increase.

The tough actions were revealed as the Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, led by House Foreign Affairs Committee chairperson Ileana Ros-Lehtinen

Moreover, the British actions change the focus of the debate, from gauzy generalizations about the need for and importance of the U.N. to a realistic look at what it actually achieves.
